Phillip Begay
KITSILLIE — Funeral services for Phillip Lee Begay, 39, will be 10 a.m., Friday, June 24, at Friends Church, Kitsillie, Ariz. The Rev. Tyrone Folsmito will officiate. Burial will be in family cemetery, Kitsillie.
Begay died June 18, 2011, in Tucson. He was born April 10, 1972,in Ganado, into the Near Water People Clan for the Bitter Water People Clan.
Begay graduated from Many Farms High School, June 7, 1991 and attended Kicking Horse Job Corp in Montana, where he received a certificate in heavy equipment operating. He was employed with the Grand Canyon in 1993, Imery Marble Mining Co in Tucson in 2005, and Lime Stone Mining Co. from 2005-2006. He was an artist and loved to do beadwork.
Survivors include his brother, Thomas Begay, Donald Begay, Tsosie Begay; sisters, Lille Mann, Linda Begay, Julia Richardson.
Begay was preceded in death by his parents, Whitehair’s Son Begay, Jessie Begay-Nez; sister, Darlene Begay.
Pallbearers will be Thomas Begay, Tsosie Begay, Donald Begay, Leo Mann, Jimmie Richardson, James Tsosie.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the late Jessie Begay-Nez residence, following services.
Tse Bonito Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Helen Brown
GRANTS — Services for Helen Brown, 86, will be 11 a.m., Friday, June 24, at Compassion Mortuary. Burial will be 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 28, at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
Brown died June 21, 2011, in Grants. She was born April 8, 1925, in Valley, Wis.
Brown was a retired nurse.
Survivors include her children, Cecil Brown of Grants, Letha Richards of Wisconsin, Marta Rosetti of San Juan Capistrano, Calif.; sister, Mary Kae Parks; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.
Brown was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne E. Brown; parents, Leslie W. Collins, Alvirah Collins; sister, Edna Deterson; brother, Bud Collins.
Compassion Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Phoebe Hill
ST. MICHAELS — Funeral services for Phoebe R. Hill, 80, will be 10 a.m., Friday, June 24, at Winslow Marnatha Assembly of God Church, Winslow, Ariz. The Rev. James Bennett Jr., will officiate.
Visitation will be 9 a.m., one hour prior to services. Burial will be in City Cemetery, Winslow.
Hill died June 20, 2011, in Flagstaff. She was born May 7, 1931, in Teesto, Ariz., into the Bitter Water People Clan for the Water’s Edge People Clan.
Hill lived in St. Michaels for eight years. She attended Leupp Boarding School and graduated from Albuquerque Indian School. She enjoyed a 35 year career in education with the Bureau of Indian Affairs serving as a librarian at Toyei, Leupp, Chuska and Greasewood Boarding School prior to her retirement.
Survivors include her sister, Mary Ahasteen of St. Michaels; brother, Randolph Tobahe.
Hill was preceded in death by her husband, Ernie Hill; father, Alvin Tobahe, Zonnie Jackson; brothers, Mark Charley, Oliver Tobahe, Jack Tobahe; sisters, Milcent Kanuho, Nona Newby.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Elks Lodge, 315 W. Third St., Winslow.

Kandice Woody
CROWNPOINT — Funeral services for Kandice Rachelle Woody, 25, will be 10 a.m., Friday, June 24, at Gospel Light House Assembly of God, Crownpoint. The Rev. Carlos Baki and Jake Delgarito will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Gallup.
Woody died Thursday, June 16, 2011, in Newcomb. She was born Oct. 28, 1985, in Crownpoint, into the One Who Walks Around You People Clan for the Mescalero Apache People Clan.
Survivors include her mother, Freida Watchamn; brothers, Eric Spencer, Lukus Woody, Jonathan P. Woody; sister, Erica Begay.
Woody was preceded in death by her daughter, Khiona Franqui Woody; father, Frank H. Woody Jr.; grandparents, Frank H. Woody Sr., Lucy M. Wody, Art Watchman, Agnes Morgan.
